Join the Children’s Commissioner’s Children and Young People Advisory Group: The Office of the Children’s Commissioner and the Diana Award are proud to announce a collaboration to set up a Children and Young People Advisory Group for England. The Children's Commissioner, Maggie Atkinson, makes sure that adults in charge listen to young people’s views. The Diana Award, on behalf of the Children’s Commissioner are looking to recruit eager young people to advise the Children’s Commissioner and her Office. We have eighteen places to fill from across England with applications open to any enthusiastic advocates aged 8-18 years or 21 for those in care or with learning disabilities, who are keen to represent the voice of young people. They will meet with Maggie Atkinson five times a year to:Advise and provide clarity and direction on specific areas of her work, Act as regional champions for the Children’s Commissioner by bringing her the views of children and young people from local areas.  In return, Advisory Group members will get: The opportunity to contribute to policies and decisions that affect the lives of all children, training in public speaking, media and research skills whilst gaining professional experience in influencing the lives of others, The chance to meet other amazing children and young people from across the country, The opportunity to meet with the Commissioner at her London-based office with travel expenses paid.  To apply, tell us why you want to be a part of this amazing new opportunity and also how you can contribute to the Advisory Group. Really Good First Aid
is an approved HSE and QCA provider of a range of First Aid Courses [through ITC certification]. They hold a series of open courses every month in the South West and also deliver on-site training for groups. Their range of courses include a 4 hr appointed person, the new 6 hr Emergency First Aid at Work and full 3 Day First Aid at Work course. For more outdoor specific courses they deliver an 8 hr Outdoor Emergency Action and 16 hr Outdoor Incident Management Course which both meet the requirements of most National Governing Body Awards. Training for the Expedition, Skills and Physical Sections: 
Training follows the requirements of the DofE and is pitched at the level of each group; Bronze = full training, Silver = refresher and skills developments, Gold = refresher and further developments. All training courses operate with a ratio of 8 participants to 1 instructor. Assessment courses operate with a ratio of 6 participants to 1 instructor. Training or Assessment, courses cost £240 per instructor for a full day and £160 for a ½ day. Discounts are available for larger groups and for block / repeat bookings.
Navigation - Training includes map and compass, timing, pacing, special skills and much more. Assessments are available and National Navigation Award Scheme Bronze and Silver certificates can be awarded.
Campcraft - Training includes site selection, use of tents and stoves, nutrition, environmental considerations and much more.
Canoeing - Training includes paddling strokes, lifting and handling, journeying and much more. Assessments are available and BCU 1, 2 and 3 star certificates can be awarded.
Mountain Biking - Training includes the safe cycle, on and off-road skills, cycling with panniers, bike maintenance and much more.
First Aid - Rescue Emergency Care (REC) first aid courses include; vital signs, emergency action, levels of consciousness, bleeding, cpr, and much more.  The Rescue Emergency Care (REC) scheme accredits our First Aid courses and operate with a ratio of 8-12 participants to 1 trainer and costs £60 each per day. The Basic (one day) First Aid course is valid for 3 years (this course also allows the participant to be nominated as the Appointed Person within the workplace). The Emergency (two day) First Aid course is valid for 3 years (this course is recognised as sufficient by National Governing Bodies such as RYA, MLT, BCU). All our courses can be run either as intensive blocks, or as progressive days out. The number of training sessions required will depend on the abilities of the groups. ASTHMA UK is offering an exciting opportunity to take part in a residential weekend on 5-6 February 2011 in Manchester. It’s a fun and free event where you will learn about managing your asthma and how to help other young people with asthma as well as while finding out more about all the other volunteering opportunities available at Asthma UK. Volunteers must be over 18 and have asthma to take part. Free ongoing training will be provided to help you develop your new skills and volunteering projects. It is an ideal way to start your Volunteering or Skills section, all expenses are paid and it's so much fun!
