Approved Activity Providers
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award licenses external organisations that provide opportunities which have been proven to meet our programme & sectional conditions and so can count towards the achievement of an Award. We call these partners Approved Activity Providers (AAPs). They can be commercial organisations or charities and usually provide a section in its entirety, including accredited assessment and the signing of Record Books. AAPs can be confidently used for a DofE Award.
Does your organisation run an activity or activities that count towards part of a DofE programme? Then become one of our Approved Activity Providers (AAP) and you'll enjoy:

- A much closer working relationship with us
- Regular reviews, updates and consultation to ensure you - can build on the high quality services you offer.
- The clearest possible understanding of DofE programmes and Duke of Edinburgh's Awards
- Our ongoing promotion of your services amongst DofE groups, participants and Leaders
- The use of an AAP logo, incorporating the DofE logo
- Links and mentions on our website and in the DofE magazine On and offline advertising opportunities at a discounted rate.

The AAP licence is a quality standard on an organisation's programme meeting the programme and sectional requirements of the DofE.
Please note that the AAP licence does not guarantee the suitability of an AAP in terms of health and safety or its financial stability. Operating Authorities will have their own process for checking the suitability of AAP programmes in terms of health and safety requirements for their young people and they have the final say on the appropriateness of a course in this respect.
AAP licence updates
These updates include important information about the development of the licence and who it applies to. Before applying to become an AAP please read these to find out where the licence has progressed to.
Contact us to become an AAP - send in an initial interest form
To become an AAP we will need to find out more about your organisation to ensure that it meets our strict criteria. If everything is in order, we'll agree a licence fee with you, which is based on a number of factors including turnover and whether you are a charity.
If you are interested in becoming an AAP please fill out our
AAP initial interest form (as a
PDF here) and e-mail it to
our AAP Manager. Please read the current status of the AAP licence section of this page before applying). If you are a local Physical, Volunteering or Skills section provider you can send your intial interest form directly to your regional DofE office.
When must expedition providers become an AAP?
We have now agreed a date from which the Expedition section must be delivered either directly by Operating Authorities (OA) through their OA licence or through AAPs. From 1 January 2010, expeditions not delivered by an OA and their staff/volunteers must be delivered through a licensed AAP. However if an expedition is booked before 1 January 2010 with a non-AAP then this is not a problem. This means that during 2010 there will still be many expeditions delivered by non-AAP organisations.
