'FREE' OVERSEAS RESIDENTIAL FOR 10 WEEKS: Platform2 sends young people (aged 18-25 at time of departure) away on 10-week trips to developing countries such as Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Nepal India or Peru where they take part in community volunteer projects. Examples of work include construction work, teaching basic English and maths, day care and after school clubs, nature conservation tasks and community development activities. Upon their return to the UK, Platform2 works with those same volunteers to raise awareness of poverty and global issues in their local communities in creative ways best suited to the individual volunteers. The programme is fully funded by the Department for International Development meaning that there are no significant costs to the participants, which is really quite unusual for this type of overseas volunteering experience. As a result of our government funding our target group is young people who wouldn't normally be able to afford or get the opportunity to have this type of experience. There are trips leaving in August and October 2010 so apply soon! The application form is available to download and print from

PROJECT TRUST: Project Trust is a educational charity founded in 1967 on the Hebridean Isle of Coll in North West Scotland. We send volunteers aged between 17-19 overseas for 12 or 8 months to countries in South America, Africa and Asia. Our volunteers are teachers, care workers and sport instructors. Since 1967 we have sent over 5,500 volunteers overseas. Project Trust sends about two hundred volunteers to twenty-five countries annually and is widely respected as one of the most experienced and professional gap year organisations in Britain. Our main philosophy is to provide young people with an opportunity to understand a community overseas by immersing themselves in it; living and working there for a year. All our projects are vetted for their suitability for volunteers, and none deprive local people of work. We have the expertise and the infrastructure to ensure all volunteers are given a challenging and exciting opportunity to develop themselves, and all the support available to them when they need it. The Residential section of the DofE can be achieved on either a selection course or training course. Participants interested in working towards their Gold Award are given a credit note. Coral Cay Conservation (CCC): Award-winning specialists in coral reef and tropical forest conservation. CCC is an international NGO that has been running marine conservation projects since 1986. Volunteers are at the forefront of Coral Cay’s work; they gather key information about the state and condition of coral reefs in Tobago and the Philippines. As a CCC volunteer, your work makes a real difference. In return, volunteers gain PADI Certification to at least Advanced Open Water Level (if they do not already have it) and training in marine survey techniques and marine ecology. They work closely with the local community and will certainly return more confident, independent, culturally aware with a whole new set of skills! CCC Volunteers do not need dive experience, they do not need to be athletes or scientists, but, they must have enthusiasm, energy and a positive attitude! For more information please see our website:
