Tall Ships Adventures Regatta Weeks Sponsored by the Foundation for Sport and the Arts: Once again we are running these very popular regatta weeks in August that are specifically to encourage young people into sailing, so no previous experience is required. By the end of the week you will be racing our awesome 72ft yacht!  There are two weeks to choose from: 21 – 28 August, 16–25yrs, Portsmouth – Brixham (includes our Big Bash party at the end of the voyage).  29 August–5 September, 16–25yrs/14-15yrs, Brixham–Portsmouth.  COST: £249 + £ 10.50 port & fuel surcharge when you have successfully completed our bursary application form http://www.tallships.org/attachments/30/BURSARY%20FORM%20%2009.05.22%20_FINAL_.pdf  

Canal Cruising through the Yorkshire Dales on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal: Gold Residential & Complete Crew Certificate. 23 to 27 August 2010. £155 all-inclusive. The Adams’ Ark Residential Barge offers the opportunity for young people to complete their Gold Residential and gain experience of canal cruising at its best. Adams’ Ark is a wide beam canal boat owned and operated by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, an Award Operating Authority. It is based at Skipton on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and thus offers the opportunity to cruise some of the most picturesque canals in the UK. This is a fully interactive course, expert tuition will be provided in all aspects of canal boat handling and the operation of locks and mechanical bridges. In addition to meeting the requirements of the Gold Residential, all participants will gain the Complete Crew Course Certificate accredited through the National Community Boats Association and the Open College Network. The Cost is £ 155 per participant, including all food and collection from/return to designated railway station. The boat is fully equipped and participants need only bring personal clothing and sleeping bag. TALL SHIP SAILING: Trinity Sailing offers young people the unique opportunity of learning to sail on a classic sailing vessel from our base in South Devon. Tall Ships Races, Adventure Sailing Voyages and RYA Courses, plus lots more. Our voyages are at least six nights long and the sailing area includes the south coasts of Devon & Cornwall, France & Scandinavia. Trainees help with all aspects of sailing the boat under the guidance of the crew and can work towards gaining a professionally recognised qualification and certificate at the end of the week. At Sea Sail Training organises fantastic sailing trips on the most sensational sailing ships worldwide. It’s all about active and adventurous sailing and having a great time together.  International Exchanges: Racing at high speed during the Tall Ships Races together with a great variety of nationalities. That’s an International Exchange! Besides actively sailing the ocean you will connect with other cultures. Mentors will come along to make sure everything goes smoothly. English is the official language aboard these sponsored trips for youth between the age of 15 and 25. But you also can practice other languages with people from European countries. CIRDAN SAILING TRUST: Cirdan Sailing Trust provides the ideal experience for young people looking for something challenging and adventurous for their Gold Residential section of their DofE programme. Participants will be encouraged to become an active member of crew aboard the classic Edwardian racing yacht Duet, joining in with all on board activities, both above and below deck during the six day voyage. No previous sailing experience is necessary although keen sailors will also enjoy the challenge. This sailing voyage will provide you with fun, adventure, new friends and a range of skills plus the chance to gain accreditation in RYA Competent Crew. TIDEWAY ADVENTURERS NARROW BOAT PROJECT: participants have the unique opportunity to complete their Residential section on board a 70ft community narrow boat. Tideway Adventurers is an independent voluntary run community narrow boat project with two boats based on the southern end of the Grand Union Canal at Uxbridge. Work on board as a crew member training to be a qualified skipper over the 5 day period. You will complete parts of the Certificate in Community Boat Management endorsed by the National Community Boats Association and Open College Network while all the time discovering and exploring England's heritage and the Inland Waterways. Each summer between 70 and 100 vessels from 20 or more countries, crewed by some 4,000 or so young people from over 30 countries worldwide, take part in The Tall Ships' Races in Europe. This unique event combines four days of activities in each port with racing or cruising-in-company between ports. During the race series the you get the chance to gain experience by mixing with your peers from other countries while facing the physical and emotional challenges that only the ocean can provide.
