Sir Bobby Charlton

Sir Bobby proved this when playing recently at Royal Birkdale, this year’s Open Championship venue, with DofE supporters, Neil and Alan Stevenson, and David Smith, who is a prominent member of the DofE’s Golfing Society.

Neil successfully bid for the privilege of playing with Sir Bobby at a DofE golfing event held at Royal Birkdale on 30 April, helping to raise over £16k on the day for the charity.

When the fourball played, the weather at Birkdale remained fine and the players enjoyed a round of golf on arguably the best links course in Great Britain. Sir Bobby is a great believer in the DofE programmes and his willingness to give his time so generously is a true mark of this champion.

Neil’s comment after the round was that he could not think of “a finer person on this planet to play golf with”.
