the DofE partners with race online 2012!
The DofE is delighted to be an official partner of Race Online 2012. Race Online 2012 is the landmark challenge led by the UK’s Digital Champion Martha Lane Fox. Their Manifesto for a Networked Nation calls on people and organisations in every sector and in every area of the UK to work together to inspire, encourage and support as many new people as possible to get online by the end of the Olympic year. People without access to the internet are missing out on job opportunities, consumer savings and avenues for communication, education and connection that the rest of us just take for granted.
With all of us working together, we hope to help tackle the issue. By developing eDofE, we have ensured we have put the internet at the heart of our Charity. We believe all participants should be able to use eDofE, enhancing their DofE experience, and making information and resources more accessible to everyone. For those that aren’t online, we hope eDofE can be a trigger to go online – especially as it’s an online tool with tangible offline benefits – the Achievement Pack for participants and reports/information for adults.

Helping others get online can be a positive experience for everyone and a great way for DofE participants to complete their Volunteering section too, either individually or as a team.Harnessing skills to help others get online represents a fun and practical volunteering opportunity for participants, whilst contributing to positive social change.
RaceOnline has over 500 partners, many provide free advice and information to support this initiative (
www.raceonline2012.org) PassITon is Race Online’s key resource area (
www.helppassiton.co.uk) that gives ten top tips that will help get participants and the person they’re helping get started. They provide a step by step guide to using online basics, and 30 free training sessions that participants could use with their recipient.
Three key reasons to PassITon:
-- Save money: online shopping provides the opportunity to search for the best deals and not be forced to just take whatever offer is on the high street
-- Save time: from online banking to booking a holiday, the internet enables us to forget about standing in long queues or being put on hold by a call centre
-- Stay connected: whether keeping touch with relatives, tracking down old friends or meeting new ones, communicating with others is far easier online.
