Sir Christopher Wren staff raise over £2.3k for the DofE Charity
A team of runners from top Windsor hotel, the Sir Christopher Wren’s House Hotel and Spa in Windsor took part in the Windsor Half Marathon on Sunday 21 September to raise funds for youth charity, the DofE.
The Hotel’s General Manager, Marketing Manager, Head Chef and Gym Manager took on the testing 13.2 mile course. Not only did all the runners complete in less than 2.5 hours, but they also collectively raised £2,233 in sponsorship from friends, family and suppliers to help young people.
Mathew Griffin, General Manager of the Hotel said, “A lot of my team have a keen interest in sport and fitness so we decided to put it to good use by running the Windsor Half Marathon. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is the Hotel’s dedicated charity partner, and we work closely with them throughout the year so it was an obvious choice to try and raise money for them. It has amazed me how generous many of our suppliers and corporate partners have been and I would like to thank them all for their support.”
The Hotel kindly gave the DofE opportunity to share their hospitality tent on the day of the race. Here the Hotel’s spa team were offering runners sports massages in exchange for making a donation to the DofE.
The partnership between the Hotel and the DofE is now in its second year and the Half Marathon is just one of their joint initiatives. The Hotel also adds a discretionary £1 to each bill in Strok’s Restaurant which has resulted in over £1000 being donated to the charity in the last year alone. Last July the Hotel kindly hosted Afternoon Tea for DofE Supporters and a number of celebrities following a Gold Award Presentation at Windsor Castle. The Hotel also offers discounted rates on rooms for the charity’s supporters and provides raffle prizes for fundraising events.
Elkie Thorndyke, from the DofE’s Partnership Team, who also ran the half marathon with the Hotel’s team said “We are delighted with the number of initiatives and fundraising schemes that we are working on with the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel. This is a fantastic example of a true partnership. I would personally like to thank all the staff who have been involved.”
