Hampshire DofE Leader Mary Eyre took part in artist Antony Gormley's One & Other art project on Thursday 24th September by volunteering to spend an hour on a plinth in Trafalgar Square.
The project is an extension of the exploration of the connection between individuals.
Mary said: "Each person has one hour to use as they please, the idea is that the living installation will be there for 100 days , 24hrs a day. It will cover a cross section of British people and what they do. On the website it shows the enormous variety. It is a project run in conjunction with Sky Arts and they are making bits of film I believe.
"I put my name in the draw just because it is an unusual opportunity to do something different , and a bit of a challenge! No-one was more suprised than me to be drawn from all the tens of thousands that applied! I hoped it would be a unique experience, and it was. Everyone , including my family have been very encouraging and supportive."
To put my opportunity to good use and have a purpose I decided to promote DofE . It is a programme that I stongly support . I feel every young person should get the opportunity to participate in, but not everyone does as we need more leaders. I have been involved for about 20yrs and I have been a DofE Leader for most of those."
