plain sailing for first eDofE gold award

The first Gold Award to be completed through the new eDofE system has been achieved by Laura Wiles. Through her role at Bluecube Technology Solutions, the company who designed and maintain eDofE, Laura was encouraged to go for Gold.

eDofE is light years ahead of the Record Book it replaces and comes with a host of enhanced capabilities. As Laura highlighted,

"I could create a diary of information, add photos and media, and enjoy more freedom to explain what I'd done each week. eDofE also provided easy contact to everyone involved in helping me complete my modules."

With a company sponsored cruise up the Solent for a week, which "felt like a holiday, but with the chance to learn a new skill," it was all plain sailing for Laura's Gold Award...well, nearly!

Her assessment hike of 90km over 5 days took place in one of the worst years for expedition conditions due to rainfall. Whilst no amount of planning or support can stop the rain, it can help you find a dry place to sleep. Fortunately Bluecube's office manager lent Laura equipment for her expeditions and helped with route planning and map reading.

For those about to begin their Awards, Laura advises: "eDofE is brilliant to use and everything you need is at your finger tips. All your communication, forms and information are in one single resource hub. It ensures all the formalities are complete, allowing you to get on and enjoy doing your award."
