The DofE licences external organisations that provide opportuntities which have been proven to meet our conditions and can count towards the achievement of an Award. We call these partners Approved Activity Providers (AAPs).
They can be commercial organisations or charities and are usually able to provide a section in its entirety, including accredited assessment and the signing of Record Books. As a DofE Leader, you can confidently recommend AAPs to your participants.
The AAP licence is a quality standard on an organisation's programme meeting the programme and sectional requirements of the DofE.
Please note that the AAP licence does not guarentee the suitability of an AAP in terms of health and safety or its financial stability. Operating Authorities will have their own process for checking the suitability of AAP programmes in terms of health and safety requirements for their young people and they have the final say on the appropriateness of a course in this respect.
Look out for this logo which identifies an organisation as one for our Approved Activity Providers. If an organisation is not listed on our website then they are not an AAP.
Have you used an AAP?

When must expedition providers become an AAP?
We have now agreed a date from which the Expedition section must be delivered either directly by Operating Authorities (OA) through their OA licence or through AAPs. From 1 January 2010, expeditions not delivered by an OA and their staff/volunteers must be delivered through a licensed AAP. However if an expedition is booked before 1 January 2010 with a non-AAP then this is not a problem. This means that during 2010 there will still be many expeditions delivered by non-AAP organisations.
