EAAS IN DETAIL/requirements

EAAS in detail/requirements

The scheme trains and accredits people who want to assess Bronze, Silver and Gold expeditions in the UK.

There are four stages to accreditation:

1. Application to join EAAS

Those applying will need to have completed the DofE's online e-induction and have a letter of completion. They must be CRB cleared, at least 18 years old, and have appropriate outdoor skills or qualifications where required. For Gold only, familiarity with at least one area of Gold expedition operation is required - this may include coastal waters or inland rivers. A £5.00 registration fee will be included in the course fee (this fee is waivered for Assessor Network members)

2. Pre-course learning

Everyone will need to complete the pre-course learning which is an e-learning module that will take 20 minutes to complete. It covers the role of the Assessor, the Expedition Assessor Accreditation Scheme, the principles and practicalities of the Expedition section and a look at some of the soft skills required for the role.

3. Expedition Assessors Course

A one day course covering all the parts of the role and responsibilities of Expedition Assessors. For those wishing to be accredited to assess Gold expeditions (or Bronze/Silver expeditions in wild country), there is a further online package of 15 minutes covering wild country notifications, Assessor Networks and other issues.

4. Supported assessment

Assessors will need to undertake a supported assessment supported by a DofE-approved accredited Assessor. There are a set of DofE-approved performance criteria by which potential Assessors will be measured.

Providing the potential Assessor meets the criteria they will be accepted for accreditation.

All online modules are available at www.DofEtraining.org

On accreditation Assessors will be given an ID card, certificate and ID card holder. Note: Accreditation renewal is required for all Assessors every five years.
