The DofE in Schools
“People are at their most confident when they have experience and skills and know they can cope with real life challenges. This is exactly what the DofE is designed to offer young people.”
(Dr Carol Craig - Chief Executive, Centre for Confidence and Well-being)

"I learned that you can push yourself. I didn’t think that I’d be able to do it but after I completed it I thought I could complete anything." (Bronze Award Holder, South Ayrshire)

The DofE and Curriculum for Excellence – Two Complementary Frameworks
The ways in which participation in the DofE encourages young people to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors is outlined in the recent policy briefing and poster.
The Building the Curriculum 4- Policy Brief summary can be viewed here.

The Curriculum for Excellence Impact Project
Recognising the contribution the DofE could make to Curriculum for Excellence, DofE Scotland developed a pilot project in partnership with three local authorities to use DofE programmes as a framework to implement Curriculum for Excellence, provide young people with more opportunities to develop skills for learning, life and work and recognise young people’s learning and achievements.
The primary aim of the pilot project has been to increase the capacity of schools to offer and deliver DofE programmes to more young people. Within this report you will find practical information as to how Curriculum for Excellence has been implemented in five diverse learning communities across Scotland through the development of the DofE. It will also outline how the DofE has been utilised to build partnerships and has made a dramatic impact on developing young people, schools and the wider community.

Further guidance on when and how young people can do their DofE is provided here
