Residential opportunity at Tawd Vale Scout Camp near Ormskirk, Lancashire. Join us for a week of conservation activities at Merseyside Scouts camp site in the heart of the Lancashire countryside. We have 12 places for over 18’s to look at woodland management, river management and more. The site is on more than 80 acres of mixed woodland and has a diverse population of plants, animals and trees which all need to be looked after and managed. Green Action Gold Award Residential Week: Do you want to try some new and challenging outdoor activities and have an interest in conserving the environment? Then this course could be for you! This 5-day course in The Peak District, includes activities such as woodland management, bushcraft skills, working with willow, as well as the opportunity to experience rock climbing, caving, abseiling, the zip wire, low ropes and Sky Ropes. This residential week will also give you the opportunity to achieve The John Muir ‘Discovery Award’. The Green Team are running a summer Gold Residential opportunity to the Scottish Highland estate of Ben Lawers from 2nd to 7th July 2012. You will have the chance to take part in some exciting conservation work on this estate managed by the National Trust for Scotland. Tasks will include upland tree planting, fence removal and habitat restoration. There will be plenty of opportunity to explore the surrounding countryside, take in the stunning views and discover what makes this area so special for wildlife. You will also achieve a John Muir Discovery Award for taking part in this project. The accommodation is a comfortable outdoor centre at the edge of the estate. Gold Residential Conservation Projects 2012: The National Park Authority is organising conservation project weeks in the beautiful Peak District:  Saturday 21st July to Thursday 26th July; Friday 3rd August to Wednesday 8th August; Friday 17th August to Wednesday 22nd August; The cost is £160 per person. Please note that projects are open to people aged 18 and above. Canal Camps: WRG is looking for volunteers to help us restore the derelict canals & waterways of England! WRG runs week-long working holidays called ‘Canal Camps’. They are a great experience for anyone who loves being outdoors and is interested in having fun, whilst meeting people and learning new skills. Our camps offer you a chance to add to your CV and learn heritage restoration skills such as stone walling, bricklaying, machine operation and more! Cathedral Camps: Working for a week in a Cathedral can be fun? It must be the great people you get to meet, the new and interesting buildings you visit; and the fun skills and activities you get to be involved in! A week long residential - ideal for your Gold Residential - involving conservation, restoration and maintenance of cathedrals and major churches. Conservation: The DofE in Wales and the YHA have teamed up to offer the following residential weeks providing opportunities to work with the Breacon Becons conserveing one of the most beutiful area of the national park and develop teamworking skills. Cost of residential £170 which includes all meals (including breakfast, packed lunches and evening meals), accommodation and all activities and 1 years membership to YHA. We will provide free WiFi access so that you can update your eDofE records. The residential will meet the criteria for the Gold DofE but please remember that you should aim to join the residential as an individual – group bookings will not be accepted. RAILWAY PRESERVATION: Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway, the preservation company of this eight mile long narrow gauge railway in Mid Wales offers both Service and Residential Projects for the DofE. Varied work and a choice of projects offered. Equipment and training provided. Overnight accommodation available in purpose built accommodation block or camping land available. DISCOVERING SNOWDONIA, come and discover Snowdonia National Park at Rhyd y Creuau, this course will get you climbing, gorge walking, abseiling, learning about the mountains, carrying out some conservation work and an overnight expedition in the mountains of North Wales. It covers the residential component of the Gold Award and the John Muir Discovery Award. This fun course will develop your leadership skills and work as part of a team, the cost is £200 which covers food, board and all activities. CANAL RESTORATION CAMPS: Help preserve Britain's heritage by joining a work camp organised by the Kent and East Sussex Canal Restoration Group at sites around England. Cost is minimal; £49 a week or £12 a weekend including food; accommodation and safety equipment! Lots to do; fun; challenging work and opportunities for a wide range of activities. 18 plus only. ECOLOGY / SUSTAINABILITY CAMPS IN WALES. The EcoWeek trust runs residential holidays for young people aged 8 - 15 at, and in partnership with, the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth. CALLING ALL CONSERVATION VOLUNTEERS: Make a positive difference in your local environment with BTCV Scotland's Midweek Volunteers! Going out every week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, BTCV Scotland' Midweek Groups are open to everyone between the ages of 16 and 70. So, why not try something a little different - for example: drystane dyking, low-level footpath construction, planning and constructing wildlife gardens or even restoring a Victorian Garden. RAILWAY PRESERVATION & OPERATION FFESTINIOG RAILWAY: This narrow gauge steam railway maintains and operates a 13 mile long line in the heart of beautiful Snowdonia, supported by volunteers. Tasks include: loco, carriage and track maintenance projects, to train, cafe and shop operational duties. Hostel, camping and caravan accommodation available.
