Helping on children's camps

 Updated  11 May  2012

Scout camp help: E1 Active takes place from Sunday 10 to Friday 15 June. Toynbee Hall, One Youth (Scout Group) and the Attlee Youth and Community Centre are working in partnership to deliver 2012’s E1 Active/Gilwell Days programme. This opportunity is open to Explorer Scouts, Young Leaders, Adults in Scouting and DofE Participants. It can be used as part of a residential for the Gold DofE/Queen’s Scout Award. E1 Active provides primary school children from Tower Hamlets with the opportunity to spend a whole day at Gilwell Park Activity Centre, Essex. Participants will be accompanied in the countryside by their teachers, classmates, and teams of E1 Active volunteers helping them try out new and exciting outdoor activities and encourage participation in local Scout programmes and outdoor adventure. You will help guide and motivate young people visiting for the day, inspiring them and developing their leadership skills. Young Leaders/Explorer Scouts wishing to take part in this event must obtain an ‘Event Passport’ from a Nights Away Permit holder. While there will be Scout Leaders from the One Youth Scout Groups on site and all campsite fees and catering is covered, Young Leaders/Explorer Scouts will be camping independently with only remote supervision from Leaders. You will find yourself stretched in lots of different way, but if you are willing to tackle new challenges and have a good sense of humour then you’ll find that the rewards from the placement are huge. We normally offer placements of between one and four weeks duration. Each student is asked to contribute £125 per week towards the cost of food and accommodation. Please contact the centre for more information on 01873 860225 or email longtown@northamptonshire.gov.uk  For further details about the centre please visit www.longtownoec.co.uk

The holidays run as part-time children's homes and provide 1 to 1 care with full onsite medical and additional support. During the week you will receive training then help the children with daily living and activities such as theme parks, horse riding, swimming, and much much more. All the helpersmust be aged 18 years or over and the majority are paired with a specific child. Unfortunately we can not accept places from under 18s. The holidays are tremendous fun where you can really help these children, make friends and learn a great deal. The holidays run across the country for one week each during the summer holidays and we start taking applications each January. For more information and to apply please visit www.newmantrust.org
