
The South Shropshire Hills, including the upland heath of the Long Mynd, offer a wonderful environment in which to introduce young people to the outdoors. It offers a variety of terrain, interest and challenges but is not isolated or exhausting. It is ideal for Bronze and Silver DofE expeditions.
We offer:
- Preparation and Assessment for DofE expeditions
- Practice expedition support – accompanying young people’s expeditions in Shropshire or elsewhere.
- Basic Expedition Leader (BEL) training
- Basic to advanced map reading and navigation skills - NAAS certificate possible
- HSE approved expedition First Aid for outdoor activities
- Help for those working towards WGL/MLTE Mountain Leader(Summer)

Don Hale (BA MA PGCE RYA Coastal Skipper) has taught English, Philosophy and IT for many years. A qualified MLTE Mountain Leader(Summer), he has over 20 years experience of working with young people in the outdoors and prepared hundreds of students for their DofE expeditions. Don is a Gold DofE accredited Assessor. He has also taught adults for the Basic Expedition Leaders (BEL) Award. He has an Enhanced CRB, Public Liability Insurance and is qualified to provide HSE Approved Expedition First Aid and First Aid at Work.
