Participants helping community

A group of young people are hoping to give local children in Croydon a fun start in life by setting up a toy library for them.

The 20 Year 10 students from Quest Academy, Croydon are working on the project in the neighbouring Woodlands Children's Centre as part of their DofE programmes.

It is hoped the library will benefit families living in small accommodation in the local area by lending toys and equipment free of charge.

Liz Hodgman, the manager of Woodlands Children's Centre, said "With all the bad press Croydon young people have been getting over the summer riots it is great to be able to work with a group of young men who are all voluntarily making a commitment to support the younger and more vulnerable members of their community.

"The boys are extremely positive about their voluntary work and they have really impressed me with their enthusiasm."

Anyone who wants to donate toys or equipment can call the centre, which is based at Gilbert Scott Primary School in Farnborough Avenue, Croydon.
