Serco - a brighter future for local communities.

Leading international services provider, Serco has been supporting The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award since 2004 and has raised over £200,000 to help our support young people across the UK, making it one of the charity’s most successful and inspiring partnerships.

Strongly aligned with Serco’s community and CSR values, they partner with the DofE to help us reach our long term objectives and support our work with disadvantaged young people.  This partnership is successful in a number of ways, supporting our core projects and providing  funding to benefit disadvantaged young people across the UK.  Serco’s kind donation allows more young disadvantaged people do their DofE, improve their life chances and provide them with the best possible start towards young adulthood.

Serco’s Chief Executive, Chris Hyman underlines the success of this charity partnership:
"As a company we believe in putting something back into the local communities.  By supporting The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, we are building links with communities and helping disadvantaged young people across the UK who, without the DofE, would not have these opportunities."

Serco transforms local communities

Serco are passionate about supporting and developing local communities.  DofE participants in the Midlands have been able to put something back into their community.  As part of their Volunteering section, young people in Sutton Coldfield have rolled up their sleeves and brought their local church garden back to life.

The current financial climate has hit local communities hard and, in Sutton Coldfield, one of the first cuts was funding for the maintenance of the venerable old local church.  As the once beautiful grounds fell into a state of disrepair, DofE participants decided to adopt the project themselves and used the Serco Bursary to buy plants and tools to restyle the grounds.  They undertook all the manual labour themselves and achieved startling results!

The church is at the heart of the local community and thanks to the DofE participants’ efforts and the kind support of Serco, it is now, once again, a truly beautiful place to be.  We are immensely grateful to Serco for their continued support and we are sure the people of Sutton Coldfield are, as well!
