Mike and Kim Wilson's story

Helping young people unlock their potential and build a brighter future.

Mike and Kim Wilson with the Earl

Mike and Kim Wilson have been supporters of our Charity since 1997, first through their engineering company Parmley Graham and more recently as individuals.

They have made an outstanding contribution to the DofE in their region by funding a project in the North East.  This will provide specialised support to young people with special needs working towards Awards.  It will also recruit more young people with disabilities into DofE programmes.

“Supporting the North East Development Officer post has given us a unique opportunity to have a direct and tangible impact on the DofE’s work with young people in our region.  Having supported the charity for 12 years we felt the time was right to give an extra helping hand to local young people with special needs who can gain so immensely from DofE programmes,” said Mike and Kim Wilson, who live in Northumberland.

Because the DofE is about personal achievement, persistence and improvement, its adaptability means that it is ideally suited to young people with special needs.  The Midlands achieved a 300% increase in young people with special needs doing their DofE to over 1,200 per year.  We are looking forward to similar results in the North East thanks to Mike and Kim’s tremendous support.
