DofE Leadership

We successfully completed our second DofE Leadership residential over Easter and want to continue the momentum by running the next tutor training event on the 16-17th of June at the Lowport centre in Linlithgow.  If you have staff or volunteers interested please contact kevin.fawcett@DofE.org

We are now also able to add to the Leadership resources by including links to the DofE Leadership briefing note and the overview presentation and note.  Both of these are to help in the development and implementation of the leadership programme.  We hope the presentation and notes will help staff inform their schools and youth centres of the opportunities

Amazing Things

The 3rd edition of the Amazing Things document has now been published.  This document provides an overview of the different awards and outlines how the different youth awards complement each other.

The DofE in Schools

"People are at their most confident when they have experience and skills and know they can cope with real life challenges. This is exactly what the DofE is designed to offer young people.” (Dr Carol Craig - Chief Executive, Centre for Confidence and Well-being)

"I learned that you can push yourself. I didn’t think that I’d be able to do it but after I completed it I thought I could complete anything." (Bronze Award Holder, South Ayrshire)

Curriculum for Excellence through Outdoor Learning

Please find a link below to our latest policy briefing. It demonstrates the links between the Expedition section of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) and Curriculum for Excellence through Outdoor Learning (CfE through outdoor learning). These connections are made through highlighting links with subject areas and interdisciplinary learning, the experiences and outcomes with core principles and statements

The DofE and Curriculum for Excellence – Two Complementary Frameworks

The ways in which participation in the DofE encourages young people to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors is outlined in the recent policy briefing and poster.

The Curriculum for Excellence Impact Project

Recognising the contribution the DofE could make to Curriculum for Excellence, DofE Scotland developed a pilot project in partnership with three local authorities to use DofE programmes as a framework to implement Curriculum for Excellence, provide young people with more opportunities to develop skills for learning, life and work and recognise young people’s learning and achievements.

The primary aim of the pilot project has been to increase the capacity of schools to offer and deliver DofE programmes to more young people. Within this report you will find practical information as to how Curriculum for Excellence has been implemented in five diverse learning communities across Scotland through the development of the DofE. It will also outline how the DofE has been utilised to build partnerships and has made a dramatic impact on developing young people, schools and the wider community.

Case Studies

Learning Teaching Scotland has recognised the Curriculum for Excellence pilot project at Dornoch Academy as an excellent example of school and youth work partnership. Read about it here.
