what it costs to do your DofE

When you decide to do your DofE, you'll pay a small participation fee to the DofE Charity in order to get your participation place.  This is currently:
  • £12.00 for Bronze
  • £12.00 for Silver
  • £18.00 for Gold
If your school, club or whatever charges you more than this, it is because they include additional costs to them, such as administration costs etc.  The MUST tell you of any additional costs and what they cover.

Once you've paid this fee (to your Leader), you'll get:
1. A Welcome Pack
There is a Welcome Pack for each level containing:
- An outer card box – to store all elements of the pack.  You can also add their own notes etc into it - it's yours!
- The Little Book of DofE – a 12 page booklet telling you all about DofE programmes and what you need to do.
- Keeping Track – a 16 page booklet outlining eDofE, with space for you to record your DofE activity and your Assessors to make their comments.
- Assessor Cards – four (five at Gold) simple cards (one for each section) that you can hand to your Assessor which outlines the section, what you have to do/for how long and what your Assessor needs to do to help you complete your section.
- Cotswold Discount Card – get a great 15% off everything at Cotswold!
2. An eDofE account
- This is your access to our fabulous online system where you can set up your DofE programme, get your choices agreed by your Leader and record evidence of your activities in a variety of exciting formats (blogs, photos, videos).  Please note, this only starts in September and your login details will be available to you once your Leader has started using eDofE for your group.  If you're not using it yet, you can record your activities in your Keeping Track booklet and get your Leader to approve what you've done that way.
- A variety of resources and support tools available online and in eDofE.
3. Limited personal accident insurance whilst taking part in DofE activities (details are available at www.DofE.org/go/insurance).
4. A certificate and badge - once you complete your DofE programme and your Operating Authority (OA) has confirmed you have achieved your Award!
5. On achievement of a Gold Award, you'll also receive an invitation to a national Gold Award Presentation, held at a royal palace in the presence of either HRH The Duke of Edinburgh or HRH The Earl of Wessex.

Your DofE group/centre or OA may make an additional charge on top of this, but they must make it clear to you what it's for.  After that, it's up to you - how much it costs as this will depend on the activities you choose to do.  When it comes to the Expedition section you can ask around and borrow items to keep the costs down.
Please note that the participation fee is the same, regardless of eDofE usage.

If your group is still using the old-style Record Books, your participation fee is the same - you just have a different way of recording your DofE activities.  Find out more and download spare pages here.
