Wilson James invests in its employees by partnering with the DofE

 The UK’s leading youth charity, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, has launched a new partnership with Wilson James to enable more young people to take part in the DofE and better their life prospects.

The Charity has been partnering with businesses for ten years as part of its award-winning ‘DofE Business’ initiative to give young employees the opportunity to do their DofE through their employer. Companies that run DofE Business have found it speeds up young people’s development, makes them better at their jobs, and fosters the skills, attitudes and attributes that employers are crying out for.

The new charity partnership will see Wilson James (WJ) staff under the age of 25 being offered the opportunity to do their Gold DofE, as part of WJ’s apprenticeship, undergraduate or graduate programme. To achieve their Gold Award, employees will complete all the DofE sections, including Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Expedition and Residential, with a focus on developing valuable skills for business such as team-working, commitment, determination, communication and a positive approach to work.

In addition, Wilson James’ staff of all ages will be taking part in the DofE’s Diamond Challenge, a celebratory fundraising initiative in the Charity’s 60th anniversary year. As part of Wilson James’ celebrations marking 25 years in business, staff will learn a new skill or take on a personal or physical challenge.

DofE Business is backed by leading British employers and organisations who share a common goal; to invest in the future of young people, in business and the UK. As part of the initiative, Wilson James will support the Charity towards its aim of 2 million young people in the UK benefitting from their DofE  year by 2020, regardless of any barriers. This is an ambitious target and the aim is to significantly increase those participating from disadvantaged backgrounds.
