A day in the life of some of our team
Hear from some of our great employees (some of them are Award holders!) about what their roles involve…
Name: Amy Downes
Role: Senior Community Life Co-ordinatorAmy always wanted to get into journalism and so got involved with anything to do with writing whilst at school. She went on to study English at university and then, following her Masters, freelanced for a year. When she first started at Asda she worked in the Marketing team before moving to her current role.
For Amy each day is different – her role generally involves supporting Asda’s store champions, their fundraisers and members of the community who come to stores seeking support for their local activities.
Name: Aisha Jakhura
Role: Senior Manager, George Fashion Home and CreativeAisha grew up wanting to be a pop star, but as she got older she realised she was interested in psychology and studied this with media at university. After studying, she knew her passions lay in psychology, advertising, fashion and media so she spoke to a recruitment agency to get inspiration. They suggested Asda George and she has never looked back – watch her video to learn more.
“I think programmes like the DofE are amazing as they equip young people with the skills they need later in life such as team work, collaboration, communication, all skills that are essential in the work place today. “
Name: Tom Henson
Tom studied International Relations and Politics at university and then went on to intern for three months in Parliament. Although he enjoyed this experience he decided to move into the private sector and on to Asda. His current role covers a whole range of responsibilities from meeting MPs to writing responses to policy documents that could impact the business.
“I did my Bronze DofE Award at school, I’m really glad I did. It definitely helped with my career, the skills I gained during it have been crucial in getting me to where I am now.”
