Our Access Without Limits Support for Licensed Organisation and Centre package is set to support our existing organisations during the current challenging economic situation. The fund will assist LOs and Centres to support marginalised young people, and support LOs and Centres who wish to expand their programmes to offer the Award to more young people.

Grant Applications can be submitted up to 31 March 2023.

What are the funding criteria?
  • One of the following types of organisations:
    • State school or college supporting marginalised young people access the DofE
    • SEND, Alternative provision, and Pupil Referral Units
    • Voluntary and Community Organisations
    • Youth Justice organisations such as a prison. 
  • Will support marginalised young people to undertake their DofE.  
What can the funding be used for?

Eligible schools can apply for funding to support with the following:

  • Licence fee support
  • Expedition equipment Top-up
  • Leader Expedition Support
  • External Adult training support

Equipment

All equipment purchased is owned and retained by the Licensed Organisation/Centre and should be loaned but not given permanently to participants. All items should be purchased before 1st June 2023. Invoices/receipts will be required to demonstrate spend.

The Licensed Organisation/Centre must record all assets in its Assets Register. Assets are defined as an item which has a useful life of more than one year and is an item with a purchase price in excess of £500, or a group of items purchased which exceed £500.

We will only fund reusable equipment. Requesting to fund single-use items, such as gas canisters, will cause grant applications to be rejected.

Reporting

DofE Managers will be sent via email a funding report on MS Forms, which they are responsible for completing, with support from their Operations Officer. The following steps need to be taken:

  • Reports will be sent out on the 1st May 2023, the DofE Manager will receive an email requesting a monitoring form is completed. They will have up to and including the 1st June 2023 to complete and submit the report. The Operations Officer will be copied into the email.
  • The Operations Officer supports the DofE Manager to complete the form and raises any issues with their Operations Manager and the Project Officer.
  • The report is reviewed by the Project Officer and approved/request for further information. When happy the Project Officer will close the grant, notify the relevant Country/Regional Director, Operations Manager, Operations Officer and DofE Manager.

The report requests information on the following:

  • Licensed Organisations/Centres will need to demonstrate that funding has been fully used by the reporting deadline. A summary of financial spend and the submission of evidence of expenditure. The evidence of expenditure required is as follows:
    • Receipts/invoices for all expedition equipment top-up items purchased.
    • Receipts/invoices for all Leader Expedition Support expenditure.
    • Receipts/invoices for External Adult Training courses.
    • Licence fee evidence of expenditure will be provided internally by the DofE.
  • Any underspend from the Licensed Organisation/Centre will be returned to the Charity. The Charity will invoice the Licensed Organisation/Centre for the outstanding amount.
  • Licensed Organisation/Centre will need to complete a short form showing the impacts and benefits of the funding, including how the funding has helped to ensure that Licensed Organisation/Centre is sustainable.
  • Licensed Organisation/Centre may also be asked to provide case studies and communication resources about the project.

Grant recipients may also be asked to host visits from the DofE and the funder to see the projects taking place, to meet participants, to gain a better sense of the impact of the funding on marginalised young people, and to support case study and communications materials about the project.
