June Walking Challenge
This June, we’re asking you to get involved and walk 120 miles throughout the month to raise vital funds for DofE, allowing us to support the most marginalised young people to build resilience and skills for life.
With your help we can give even more young people hope for their future.
As the challenge is run through Facebook, you’ll need to have a Facebook account to take part. To sign up look out for one of the adverts on Facebook. Once you click on the advert you’ll be asked to sign up to the challenge. There’s no cost to take part in the challenge and you won’t be asked for any bank details or card payments at any stage. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll be asked if you want to join our June Walking Challenge Facebook group for everyone taking part in the challenge to share hints, tips and support each other; this group is managed and moderated by DofE. In the group you’ll also be able to register to receive a free t-shirt and fundraising pack by following the link in the post at the top of the page, once you’ve done this, you’ll also be able to set up your Facebook fundraising page and ask your friends to sponsor you. We’ll also be posting regular updates about the challenge.
If you can’t see any of the adverts on Facebook or Instagram, you can ask to join the June Walking Challenge Facebook group.
The challenge is open to anyone in the UK aged 18 or over. If you or a friend are under 18 and would like to take part, you can still complete the 120 miles but the person who signs up must be aged 18 or over.
This is completely up to you and you’ve got the whole of the month of June to complete the challenge! You may choose to walk a certain amount each day or do longer hikes at the weekend. All that we ask is that you complete 120 miles by the end of June. Where you decided to walk is also completely up to you, whether it’s walking round your local area, ditching the car for the school run, or even on a treadmill in the gym, all walking counts.
There’s no minimum fundraising target for this challenge, we just ask that you raise as much as you can! All the money from the challenge will go directly towards The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award charity, providing young people with the opportunity to take part in DofE who may not have otherwise been able to.
Once you’ve signed up for your challenge and joined the June Walking Challenge Facebook group you’ll be able to register for a free t-shirt and fundraising pack by clicking on the link in the welcome post at the top of the page. We’ll then post this out to you towards the end of May so you have everything you need, ready to start your challenge in June.
Once you register to receive a free t-shirt and fundraising pack, you’ll be set up with a Facebook fundraising page for this challenge which you can use to ask your friends on Facebook to sponsor you. As the challenge is being run through Facebook only people with a Facebook account will be able to sponsor you, you will not be sent out a paper sponsor form. If you have people who want to sponsor you who aren’t on Facebook, they could give you the money directly then add this onto your fundraising page yourself.
If you have any further questions about the June Walking Challenge please either sign up and join the June Walking Challenge Facebook group where DofE staff can answer any questions or alternatively you can email us at [email protected]
