Allestree Woodlands School – Sylvia Waddilove Foundation Funding
It had been several years since the DofE was delivered in Allestree Woodlands School in Derby when Daniel Harries re-introduced it. To help set up an ongoing DofE programme, Daniel wanted to create a stock cupboard of new expedition equipment to assist any participants who might have found this to be a barrier.
To do this he applied for funding from the Sylvia Waddilove Foundation and successfully received a lump sum to help him stock up on tents, roll mats, rucksacks and first aid kits, all the essentials for an exciting expedition.
With 56 young people now enrolled, Daniel is positive about the future of the DofE at the school. Daniel, now the DofE Manager at the school, says: “The DofE training was extremely positive with new and key life skills being delivered to all pupils in practical and engaging training sessions.”
The funding has really made a difference to the DofE participants, says Daniel: “This has enabled us to be able to offer productive training; pupils have been taught key skills needed in order to be a success throughout their DofE Award.”
