Lowland Leader Award – In conjunction with Wayahead Training Ltd.

We are delighted to announce that we are restarting our Lowland Leader Training and Assessment courses from the 20th of June. These will be running with strict protocols in place to ensure compliance with Social Distancing and safety measures.

Initially until advice changes:
• Training courses will be limited to 1:5 (in line with current Government restrictions), assessment will remain at 1:4
• There will be an introductory element (approx 1.5 hours) that will be delivered via zoom the evening before the course start.
A minimum number of 4 delegates are needed for a course to run.

Lowland Leader Training – £120

Please note you must be able to meet the pre-requirements to book on to the training.
– You must register with Mountain Training and have paid the scheme registration fee (£49)
– You must have recorded a minimum of 10 varied walks in Lowland terrain where the use of a map is required which can have taken place at any point.

Lowland Leader Assessment – £120

Courses strictly subject to minimum of 4 and maximum of 4 per tutor. Please note you must be able to meet the pre-requirements to book on to assessment.

– You must have attended a Lowland Leader training course (or have been granted exemption) You must be familiar with the syllabus
– You must have logged a minimum of 20 walks in lowland countryside in different types of terrain (woodland, coastal, farmland etc)
– You must hold a current first aid certificate, minimum 16 hours and relevant to your work as a Lowland Leader

Expedition Skills Module – £135

Courses subject to minimum numbers.

The Expedition Skills Module is an optional module available to walking leaders. It’s an opportunity to increase your skills where you will be trained and assessed to lead groups on multi day camping expeditions. The flexibility of the module makes it useful for Lowland Leaders, Hill and Moorland Leaders and Mountain Leaders in terrain and conditions within the scope of their respective leadership award. This is a residential course and involves an overnight camp.

Before you book onto an Expedition Skills Module course, you must meet the following requirements:

– You must check that you are registered for the module on the Candidate Management System (CMS)
– You must have passed a walking leader assessment (Lowland, Hill and Moorland or Mountain)
– You must have logged an absolute minimum of 10 overnight camps; ideally in a variety of contexts
– You must have assisted with at least two group camps (these can be included in your 10 personal camps)
– You must have a valid 16 hour first aid certificate, relevant to your work as a walking leader
