New Leaders Programme
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award recognises the need to encourage and inspire young people to become our Leaders for the future.
The New Leaders Programme is an increasingly popular way of engaging young people across the London Region to develop themselves both personally and as leaders and volunteers. It also provides young people with the skills and abilities that many employers, colleges and universities are looking for in their applicants.
DofE London’s New Leaders Programme has been supported by partner organisations including Licensed Organisations, John Lyon’s Charity, One Support, Viridian and Soho Estates to engage their participants and offer them leadership opportunities.
The programme commits to provide participants with a Youth Work Qualification, DofE Leadership, DofE Modular Training Certificates, work experience placements and a residential experience. In addition, participants undertake a voluntary leadership position with their nominating organisation, in turn giving back to their community.
Completion of the programme will demonstrate that they are able to commit to and complete a course of varying activities. It consists of group and one-to-one training sessions and is assessed on completion of a portfolio. Participants can achieve all the certificates and qualifications listed above as well as take part in a residential opportunity that will count towards the DofE Gold Award.
There is currently an opportunity for young people aged 17 – 23 who live, work or attend school/college in the London Borough of Westminster to access the New Leaders Programme.
