Grassroots Challenge Residential at Ardaluin House

Monday 29th October – Friday 2nd November 2018

The Grassroots Challenge is an Environmental Youth Work initiative led by Ulster Wildlife. Our aim is to enhance young people’s understanding of local wildlife and the natural environment and to empower them to lead progressive change through active participation.

Working in partnership with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award/Joint Award Initiative and Belfast Activity Centre, Ulster Wildlife is pleased to invite up to 16 young people to take their ‘GOLD Residential’ at the beautiful settings of Ardaluin House in Newcastle, Co.Down.

What’s involved?

Throughout the week there will be a programme of wildlife and environmental education and outdoor adventure activities that will enable young people to develop teamwork and social skills, build self-confidence, overcome challenges and enhance their knowledge of local wildlife and the natural environment. The range of activities may include:

  •  Bushcraft & Woodworking
  • Adventure Trail Hiking & Canoeing
  • Climbing & Archery
  • Camp Fire and Barbeque
  • Halloween Crafts & Team-Building Games
  • Building Wildlife Habitat Boxes
  • Wildlife Recording – using trail cameras, bat detectors, moth traps, wildlife surveys.

Participants will have the full support and expertise of staff from Ulster Wildlife and Belfast Activity Centre and they will have the opportunity to meet other young people from across the province with similar interests in adventure, wildlife and the environment.

Meals and equipment will be provided.

Residential Adventure Week at Woodhall Outdoor Learning Centre

Monday 20th – Friday 24th August 2018

The adventure course will involve you in a full range of challenging and adventurous activity which may include some of the following:

  • Canoeing
  • Overnight camping
  • High ropes course
  • Archery
  • Orienteering
  • Mountain biking
  • Coasteering
  • Surfing
  • Team games

Gaisce/DofE ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME at Castle Saunderson Estate, Belturbet, Cavan

Monday 27th to Friday 31st August 2018.
