If you are considering a career in primary education this course will give you a ‘Taste of Teaching’ whilst achieving the residential aspect of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s award. In addition to providing the valuable practical experience often required when applying for teaching courses, it also develops curricula and theoretical knowledge, ensuring that you will stand out from other candidates!
Experienced teachers will help participants to develop an understanding of aspects of educational theory, whilst linking the curriculum to practical activities such as historical role play, orienteering, pond-dipping, team-building and much, much more. This will include practical skills such as displaying children’s work creatively, the development of child management strategies and planning activities, with a view to implementing these with a group of primary aged children. As there will be a particular focus on the benefits of learning outside the classroom, there will be access to a range of different environments and participants will also have the opportunity to qualify for a John Muir Award.
The course fee includes accommodation, tuition fees and a resource pack of ideas will be provided for future reference. All food will be provided and as part of the experience participants will work together to prepare and serve meals.
