Gloucestershire YST (AAP) organises an annual residential for Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE participants with additional needs to complete their Expedition section.
This year we are working with Heart of the Forest Community Special School, and the course will be based at their site on the B4226 Speech House Rd, Coleford GL16 7EL in the Forest of Dean. Dates for this fully catered residential are from 10am on Sat 3 August to 2pm on 10 August 2019. Cost £400.00.
The week will consist of team building, expedition skills training and a practice expedition, before participants undertake their final assessed expedition. Participants will have a debrief and an opportunity to prepare a presentation, which will be made to parents and guests at the end of the week.
Unfortunately, we are unable to take bookings from participants using electric wheelchairs. If you use a manual chair, you must be able to transfer from chair to a lower camp bed or an airbed / sleeping mat as all your accommodation will be camping.
Although the course is catered, and we can cater for different dietary needs, we are happy for you to bring your own expedition foods, should you prefer to do so.
If you don’t have your own equipment, we can provide tents, stoves, fuel, sleeping mats or air beds, some waterproofs, maps & compasses. You will need personal kit, such as sleeping bags, appropriate footwear and clothing.
If you need a personal assistant (PA) or carer there will be a charge to cover their food and camp fees. For Gold DofE Participants, we will apply for any DofE Expedition Variations on your behalf, especially as the Forest of Dean is not DofE designated “Wild Country”.
