If you are considering a career in primary education this course will give you a ‘taste of teaching’ whilst achieving the residential aspect of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.
In addition to providing the valuable practical experience often required when applying for teaching courses, it also develops curriculum and theoretical knowledge, ensuring that you will stand out from other candidates!
Experienced teachers will help participants to develop an understanding of aspects of educational theory whilst linking the curriculum to practical activities such as historical role play, orienteering, pond dipping, team building and much, much more.
When possible, this will include planning for, and working with, primary aged school children and learning practical skills such as displaying children’s work creatively and the development of child management strategies. As there will be a particular focus on the benefits of learning outdoors there will be access to a range of different environments. Participants will also have the opportunity to qualify for a John Muir Award.
Participants will be provided with a resource pack of ideas for future reference.
