Chalets de Charme Ltd – Bee Keeping – a practical introduction

Based on the coast in Dorset, we run a 5 day DofE Gold residential course. We have our own Apiary on site, so you’ll get to know the bees very well.

This course is intended to give you the knowledge and confidence to start your own journey as a bee keeper.

We will cover the bee keeping year, the life of a bee, equipment you’ll need, and we will work in the Apiary together inspecting the hives.

Depending on the time of year we may get the opportunity to collect a swarm.

We have managed colonies and a wild colony to observe during your stay. The course is full of information and a mixture of practical and theory sessions. As we are located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, here on the Jurassic coast we will also arrange some free time activity for you to enjoy as a group.

We accept a maximum of 6 students per course. You’ll be staying at our beautiful cottage sharing a twin room with another student. All students are aged between 16 and 19 and taking the course as part of the residential component of the DofE award. As the course is residential, all your food and drink is included.
