Join Pod Volunteer to support day care centres and schools to promote education and break the cycle of poverty within the communities of Udaipur.
How can I help?
During the mornings at your placement, you will work alongside the local team to create exciting sessions to develop children’s creative and communication skills. Developing their English vocabulary and experiencing a classroom environment sets the groundwork before they start school. Volunteers teach new vocabulary and encourage the children to practice English through songs, games and run arts and crafts activities. At the end of each session, you will assist the day care staff with meal time and help the staff promote the importance of washing their hands before eating.
In the afternoons you will work together with other volunteers to play games and lead arts and crafts activities at community outreach projects and a disabled school. You can use your skills and experience to plan games, sports, dance, arts and crafts sessions or additional English and maths lessons.
When can I join?
Sunday start dates throughout the year for placements of 2-12 weeks.
Where will I be living?
The project is based on the outskirts of Udaipur, a vibrant city that attracts visitors with its colourful temples and palaces. Volunteers live in a family guesthouse alongside the local team. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. You share a room with up to 3 other volunteers on a single-sex basis.
During your free time, a day can easily be spent exploring the colourful street markets with beautiful Rajasthan jewellery and clothing or arrange weekend trips to some of India’s famous sights and cities including the Taj Mahal or Jodhpur desert safari.
Volunteer placements start from £675 for 2 weeks. This includes accommodation, all main meals, airport pick up and return transfer from Udaipur, Hindi language lessons, 2 day tours of the city and local sights + planning your trip support from the Pod team.
