Volunteer Running Buddy – Hemel Hempstead
Do you enjoy running and being active? We are looking for a volunteer running buddy, who would like to accompany somebody we support in Hemel Hempstead and run for fun with them. The person we support enjoys running once a week plus a weekend parkrun and they would love someone to enjoy and engage in friendly competition with!
Dimensions provide support for around 3,500 people with learning disabilities and autism across the UK. We support people to live as independently as possible and our volunteers play a vital role in our work.
About the role
This volunteering opportunity is the perfect way to enjoy sharing your downtime with somebody we support. No specific experience is required; however experience with adults with disabilities would be desirable.
Activities will include
Running with the person we support
Offering support and friendly competition when running
Providing friendship and fun and maybe a drink in the pub after running
Having a chat
Activities will not include
We are looking for someone who is:
Sporty and good at running
A good listener
Comfortable chatting with people with learning disabilities and autism
Willing to commit to volunteer regularly
Exact days and times will be agreed with the locality manager.
We would ask the volunteer to commit to attending their role on a regular basis – this could be once a week, every other week, once a month etc. Stability and routine are vital in supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism.
A DBS check will be required for this role. Two character references will also be required.
