Sports & Leisure Buddy

We are looking for a male volunteer buddy, who enjoys being active and would like to assist somebody we support in Chard with activities such as rugby, cricket and going to the gym!

About the role Do you enjoy getting active and playing sports? Well this volunteering opportunity is the perfect way to enjoy sharing your downtime with a service user. No specific experience is required, however experience with adults with disabilities would be an advantage.

Here at Discovery, we are really proud to offer a wide range of activities and services to the service users. We do ask that you volunteer regularly so that we can maintain a regular routine that benefits the people we support, this could be once a week, every other week, once a month etc. Stability and routine are vital in supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism.

Exact days and times will be agreed with the locality manager.

A DBS check and two character references will be required for this role.

Activities will include Assisting in planning specific activities with a person we support Offering support when playing sports Coming up with ideas for new activities Having a chat! 1:1 support

Activities will not include Financial assistance Personal care

About you We are looking for someone who is: Friendly A good listener Reliable/dependable Comfortable chatting with people with learning disabilities and autism Polite Willing to commit to volunteer regularly Able to take part in sports activities

You must be over 18 to apply for this volunteering opportunity.

The first stage of the recruitment process would be to meet the person who is looking for a buddy and our local colleagues.
