In 2020, we are offering a full direct-entry training programme for Gold walking expeditions. Participants who have not completed Silver expeditions within the last 3 years will need to start with this 3-day basic expedition training programme, and then go on our 5-day Gold Training & Practice Expedition.
Day 1 will be based at The Risk Factory and cover the topics of the 20 Conditions of the Expedition Section, Equipment, Campcraft, and Outdoor Access. Days 2-3 are based in the Scottish Borders, and include 2 led day walks where you’ll progress through basic and intermediate navigation skills, learn about outdoor first aid, and have 1-night camping on a semi-wild campsite. You won’t need to carry your camping kit all day!
Dates for your diary are:
Monday 29th June, 10:00-17:00 at The Risk Factory
Saturday 4th July, 09:00 to Sunday 5th July, 17:00 (meeting and returning to The Risk Factory, 20 New Mart Road, Edinburgh EH14 1RL)
Transport is provided from and returning to The Risk Factory for the weekend trip.
We can lend you all the specialist equipment for your expeditions – everything from boots, socks and waterproofs, to tents, stoves and first aid at no extra cost. Participants are required to make an additional refundable deposit of £25 for equipment borrowed. This deposit is kept providing all borrowed equipment is returned clean, dry and on time then we will offer to refund your equipment deposit within 30 days. You still need to supply your own food, and we encourage you to share with your teammates whilst on expedition.
We pride ourselves on helping individual participants form effective teams which support each other. We support each team to plan and achieve their own unique, self-sufficient expedition that truly belongs to them. We can accommodate most additional support needs.
