Farms for City Children – Nethercott House Farm and Garden Programme – August 2023

Our Gold Award Residential Programme runs during weeks when we do not have a group in residence, normally out of term time. Farming never stops though – our sites continue to work during these periods and there are always animals to feed, stables to muck out, harvesting to be done in our large productive gardens, produce to process and maintenance tasks around the farm.
This week will certainly offer a great variety of experiences and an opportunity to experience life on a small farm in a stunning remote location. Nethercott is centred on a large Victorian manor house that will become your home for the week. We have a mix of accommodation, but typically this would be a twin room or a small dormitory, all with their own bathroom. Although we have no tv in the house, we do have WIFI, a fantastic dining room, quiet room, games room, kitchen and large grounds with a roundhouse and fire pit in the woods and lawn games to enjoy.
The residential is full board – we will provide all meals although the group will be involved in food preparation, cooking and other kitchen duties (washing up!). There is an onsite laundry available.
The Gold Award Residential will be an exclusive occupancy, no other group will be joining us that week so you really will have the place to yourselves to enjoy!
All activities on the farm will be fully supervised by our well trained and experienced staff and we will provide all training, tools, equipment and PPE needed. You just need to bring a pair of wellies. Our friendly and experienced staff will be around during the day to guide and support our DofE group and a member of staff will be also be in residence at all times to support with any out of hours emergency
At our wonderful heritage farm you will experience the benefits of collaboration, enjoy plenty of physical activity, good food, and fresh air, and discover a magical rural environment. Through your volunteer work you will help us to maintain our livestock and gardens and keep the site in good shape and ready for the return of our beneficiaries.
