You will develop skills and knowledge to be able to teach different aspects of expeditions and safely supervise Expedition Teams. The Level 3 Qualification in Lowland Expedition Leadership is a recognised qualification, allowing holders to train and supervise participants for overnight DofE expeditions that take place within the environment chosen, i.e. rural, urban or restricted spaces, as indicated in the Expedition Aim & Requirements.
Unlike other nationally recognised awards based on hill/mountain walking, the LEL3 learning outcomes look at developing a broader range of ‘soft and hard’ leadership and other key skills that are required to effectively lead and teach young people, particularly those undertaking their DofE, the knowledge and proficiency needed to successfully complete an expedition.
Minimum age: 16 to start training and minimum of 17 for certification; once qualified, indirect supervision at 17 years old; independent of supervision at 18 years old.
Cost for the Qualification is a subsidised rate for DofE participants undertaking the course for their residential section. Cost includes registration fee and assessment, residential and camping fees. Food and transport costs not included.
