Teams choose a destination area, normally in the Highlands, then they choose their route and campsites. Gold Expeditions always include some wild camping.
The first day of the trip is an Acclimatisation Day, which will include travelling to the expedition area, a brief refresher training session, meeting the Assessor and a night on a serviced campsite. The expedition itself takes place on days 2-5.
We will meet at and return to The Risk Factory, 20 New Mart Road, Edinburgh, EH14 1RL, where our Kit Store is based. Transport will be provided from The Risk Factory to the practice start location in Scottish Borders, Trossachs or Tayside.
Our Gold Qualifier Expedition in May is open to anyone who has completed a Gold Practice Walking Expedition in 2019, and will be in the East Highlands. The planning meetings are compulsory, and teams must deliver a presentation after the expedition.

We can lend you all the specialist equipment for your expeditions – everything from boots, socks and waterproofs, to tents, stoves and first aid at no extra cost. Participants are required to make an additional refundable deposit of £25 for equipment borrowed. This deposit is kept providing all borrowed equipment is returned clean, dry and on time then we will offer to refund your equipment deposit within 30 days. You still need to supply your own food, and we encourage you to share with your teammates whilst on expedition.
We pride ourselves on helping individual participants form effective teams which support each other. We support each team to plan and achieve their own unique, self-sufficient expedition that truly belongs to them. We can accommodate most additional support needs.
