We have a plastic crisis globally, and this project is doing its bit locally to tackle rubbish in the Atlantic Ocean. Each day, divers take a boat out into the ocean and dive to remove plastics and fishing gear from the seabed. This has helped marine life to flourish again.
What’s it all about?
Each day you will enjoy diving with a team of passionate divers and conservationists, helping to clean up the ocean near Lisbon. Tasks will include:
– identifying and removing rubbish from the seabed
– collecting anything located in the sea and bringing it to shore
– separating items found and recycling where possible
– logging data on the items collected
– educating people about the importance of avoiding single-use plastic where possible, and disposing of it correctly when used
Each participant will receive dive training aimed at their specific abilities.
You can volunteer between March and October for 1 week+.
Accommodation and food
You will stay in an eco-guest house in the lovely city of Lisbon. You will share a room with 1 – 7 others in bright airy rooms. There are shared bathrooms, a huge terrace and balconies, a volunteer kitchen and living areas.
You will receive 3 meals per day, all cooked on site by local members of staff.
How much does it cost?
1 week costs £1169. Extra weeks cost £455 per week.
Who is this suitable for?
This project is especially suited to those aged 18+ who are interested in the marine world. You do not yet need to know how to dive, as you will receive tuition whilst on the project.
