Immerse yourself in the marine world, helping to preserve the Marine Big 5 in stunning South Africa. You’ll be contributing to an essential education and research mission conserving whales, great white sharks, cape fur seals, dolphins and the African penguin – with the added bonus of shark cage diving too!
You can volunteer here throughout the year for 1 – 12 weeks.
What’s it all about?
Volunteers will work on an eco-tourism and education boat every day. The main tasks include helping on shark spotting and whale watching trips, preparing shark cages, recording data and educating visitors on marine conservation. Other tasks include helping at the local penguin sanctuary, doing beach clean ups, doing local conservation events and receiving informal lectures about the ongoing research work.
This is a fantastic opportunity for people who are passionate about the sea and the creatures within it. Located in a stunning coastal location, it is an amazing place to spend a week or more making a genuine contribution.
Accommodation and food
Accommodation comprises of small chalets within a lovely compound just minutes from the sea. There are four chalets which provide home to up to 20 volunteers. There is a garden, swimming pool, pool table, kitchen and BBQ. Breakfast and lunch are provided, and volunteers generally cook together in the evening.
During free time, volunteers love going to the beach, enjoying the swimming pool, doing vineyard tours and visiting the most southerly point of Africa. There are lots of great things to see and do in the area when the weather does not permit you to go out on the boats.
How much does it cost?
1 week costs £829. Each additional week costs £375 per week.
