Live on an unspoilt beach in the stunning country of Costa Rica. Whilst you are there, you will be protecting and conserving both mother and baby turtles, with the aim to bring them back from the brink of extinction.
You can volunteer for 1 – 12 weeks from the 1st July to the 15th December each year.
What’s it all about?
Mother turtles lay their eggs between July and December each year. You will help to patrol the beach at night, the key nesting time, looking for nesting mother turtles. When a mother turtle is spotted, you will help to take data, collect the eggs and transport them to a safe beach-side hatchery so that they can hatch in safety. When they have hatched, you’ll release the baby turtles to the sea to start their new lives. This is an amazing way to help bring a species back from the edge of extinction.
Accommodation and food
You will be living just metres away from the ocean in a shared volunteer dorm. The bedrooms are en-suite with western toilets and showers heated by the sun.
You will enjoy three delicious meals per day. Breakfast is a DIY buffet of toast, eggs and fruit, whilst lunch and dinner are cooked in the local community. Staples include rice and beans, vegetables, fruit, fish and meat.
How much does it cost?
1 week costs £889 and additional weeks cost £270.
