Join Pod Volunteer to help research and protect Costa Rica’s sea turtles and incredible wildlife. Volunteer at a research and education centre working with local communities and government to research and conserve local wildlife, including endangered sea turtles.
In turtle season, you will be helping to monitor and protect Olive Ridley sea turtles which come to nest on the beach by the centre and are in danger of extinction.
How can I help?
You will be volunteering at a non-profit biological research and education centre formed by community members and Costa Rican scientists. They have a number of active projects:
• Sea turtle conservation (from July to January)
• Wildlife monitoring – birds, monkeys, bats, other mammals, crocodilians, reptiles and amphibians (all year)
• Outreach and education, including a butterfly garden (all year)
When can I join?
Any day throughout the year for 1-12 weeks.
Where will I be living?
Accommodation is within the research centre, and you will have your own room. Each room has a fan, storage, drawers and mosquito screens on the windows. Bathrooms are shared and have hot water showers.
The reserve is located about 3.5 hours from San Jose. It’s an unspoilt and beautiful region, famous for its incredible biodiversity. The research centre is located by the beach and there are rivers and waterfalls to visit nearby as well as other beaches to explore.
Volunteer placements start from £495 for 1 week. This includes accommodation, all main meals and planning your trip support from the Pod team.
