This year, FOTA are running a 4-day residential training and practice expedition for Silver. Days 1 & 2 will be based at a serviced campsite, with a mixture of classroom and outdoor sessions covering the skills for Silver expeditions in unfamiliar or remote countryside, and a planning session for the practice expedition. Days 3 & 4 will be a Practice Expedition with a wild camp. It doesn’t matter whether a Bronze expedition has been completed or not. We cover campcraft, outdoor access, navigation, food, equipment and first aid.
We will meet at and return to The Risk Factory, 20 New Mart Road, Edinburgh, EH14 1RL, where our Kit Store is based. Transport will be provided from The Risk Factory to the training and practice location in Scottish Borders, Trossachs or Tayside.
We will meet at The Risk Factory at 09:00 on Tuesday 14th April, and return on Friday 17th April at approximately 18:00.
We can lend you all the specialist equipment for your expeditions – everything from boots, socks and waterproofs, to tents, stoves and first aid at no extra cost. You still need to supply your own food, and encourage you to share with your teammates whilst on expedition.
We pride ourselves on helping individual participants form effective teams which support each other. We support each team to plan and achieve their own unique, self-sufficient expedition that truly belongs to them. We can accommodate most additional support needs.
