TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex attend DofE Women in Business celebration
To mark ten years of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Women in Business Group, TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex joined leading supporters of the DofE Charity for an evening reception on Thursday 6th June, sponsored by Investec Wealth & Investment.
Trustee of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Prince Edward was joined by his wife and Chair of The Charity’s Women in Business Committee, HRH The Countess of Wessex, in celebrating ten years of the women in business and its achievements.
HRH The Countess of Wessex established the Group in 2003 to support the DofE’s ambition to reach more young people and help them to develop skills that can transform their futures. Since its inception, The Women in Business Group has raised over £1m for the Charity.
The evening reception saw inspirational DofE Award holders and a DofE volunteer leader speak about their experience with the Charity and how it has helped young people, before guests heard from host of the evening, WIB Committee member and Senior Investment Director at Investec Wealth & Investment, Elissa Bayer.
HRH The Countess of Wessex then took to the stage to highlight the impact of the work of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award which works with over 300,000 young people every year, helping them to develop skills for life and work.
The evening generated crucial funds for the Charity which needs to raise over £100,000 every week to continue to develop and reach more young people across the UK.
Emily Mailes, a Gold DofE Award Holder who started her DofE at 16 through a young mums group and attended the event, said:
“I’ve gained amazing experiences through my DofE, building new friendships and developing new skills while having an amazing time in the process. The Volunteering section helped me to find work, in fact, I got my current job solely because I did my DofE; it has completely changed my life.”
Jacqui Larcombe, Fundraising Director at The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award said:
“I’d like to thank Elissa Bayer and the Investec Wealth & Investment team for their generosity in hosting this event to celebrate the achievements of The Women in Business Committee. The Committee members, our partners and donors are crucial to the development of our Charity, without them we would not be able to continue to help young people to unlock their potential and build a brighter future.
We are extremely grateful to TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex for their time this evening for their unfaltering support of our Charity.”
Elissa Bayer, Senior Investment Director at Investec Wealth & Investment who hosted the evening said:
“I was delighted to be hosting the event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Women in Business group which supports The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. The group is chaired by HRH the Countess of Wessex and I was a founder member.”
