Managing woodland access and forest operations in Scotland – aimed at forest managers but has useful information about access in forest areas for walkers and cyclists.
Ardverikie
The previously advised bridge replacement has been completed with no issues. However, we are now moving on to the potentially more difficult and disruptive Camp Bridge at NN553868 which is located on the Ardverikie to Ben Alder path – under Highland Council Prior Approval ref 21/01500/PNO.
There is a considerable pedestrian diversion, although users might choose to wade across the river if it is low. Attached are signs and maps that will be erected in relevant conspicuous locations approaching the bridge in both directions.
This may also cause issues for the considerable number of DofE groups that use this route and I also include them in this email update.
The work is anticipated to take approximately 4 weeks to complete, and we anticipate starting next week. We have deliberately delayed the work until now in order to miss the busiest school holiday period, but we are dependant on good weather and helpful river levels to complete the work in a safe and timely fashion to are unable to wait any longer.
Carnach Bridge
The Carnach bridge (NM 865 964) across the River Carnach north of Sourlies bothy was removed because it was deemed unsafe. There are plans to replace it, but no timescale yet. In the absence of this bridge the crossing of the River Carnach is extremely dangerous and there have been drownings here in the past. Whilst the river may be forded occasionally during dry periods in the Spring and Summer, in the main it is impassible and necessary to go a long way up the river to find a safe crossing point.
