Managing woodland access and forest operations in Scotland – aimed at forest managers but has useful information about access in forest areas for walkers and cyclists.
Extensive bridge replacement work being undertaken on two sites at Ardverikie, which will require pedestrians to make diversions. Work is about to start on a bridge at NN 463813 – the work is due to start mid/ end of July 2021 and is expected to last at least 5 weeks. Immediately after that, another bridge on the estate at NN554869 will be replaced, which will require a more significant pedestrian diversion.
The Carnach bridge (NM 865 964) across the River Carnach north of Sourlies bothy was removed because it was deemed unsafe. There are plans to replace it, but no timescale yet. In the absence of this bridge the crossing of the River Carnach is extremely dangerous and there have been drownings here in the past. Whilst the river may be forded occasionally during dry periods in the Spring and Summer, in the main it is impassible and necessary to go a long way up the river to find a safe crossing point.
