Highlighting impact at the Governors’ meeting

Attend the Governors’ meeting and present an update (or contribute to a report in advance) on the DofE activities and achievements of the year so far. Focus on progress made towards targets (participation numbers and completion numbers) and positive outcomes (using quotes and photographs). This will help build continued support for the DofE and raise awareness of your work.

Parents’ evening with DofE

Host a DofE slot at parents’ evening (or integrate your progress update into your general subject feedback) to give updates on student’s progress. This is also a great opportunity to recruit parents as volunteers.

Add targets to eDofE before expedition starts

Ensure all participants have entered their expedition aims and goals on eDofE before their qualifying expedition. This will save a lot of chasing afterwards.

Ensure all targets are met before progressing

Use the appeal of starting the next level up to encourage participants to complete their current programme. Don’t let them progress until they have had everything in their current level signed off.

Ensure participants are receiving the right level of support

Some of your participants may have unsupportive families and require extra motivation – make sure they have access to IT if needed and support on using eDofE. They may also require extra help finding activities for each of their sections (suggest opportunities that are within the school to make them more accessible).

Advertise DofE activities on school’s website

Update the school’s website with photos, quotes and Award achievements of the year so far to help attract new participants and volunteers, and to raise awareness of your work. You might also consider using social media –  visit the DofE Resource Zone for some example posts.
