The DofE Interactive Kit List

The DofE Expedition Kit List is going mobile

Planning and preparing for your DofE expedition is a key task at all Award levels. The Expedition Kit List has been the most downloaded document from the DofE for many years, but paper is often not the first or most practical choice for some.

The DofE Interactive Kit List is now live – click here!

What is the DofE Expedition Kit List?

The kit list is an illustration of the items you may need when undertaking a DofE expedition. The list is a guide, and there is no obligation to buy the items we recommend.

We had the idea to create a free online tool that you can use on your mobiles or laptops, at home and at school, to plan what you need to bring on expedition. This way, you can update it throughout the process and never lose it as what you need is all saved online and can be accessed from any device, anytime, anywhere.

We are delighted to be launching the DofE Interactive Kit List for expedition season 2017. It is available to the whole DofE network and can be used throughout expedition planning. It also features a mobile DofE Card or Voucher, to receive at least 10% when you visit your local GO Outdoors, Blacks, Millets, Ultimate Outdoors or Tiso store (Scotland only) and online.

The Interactive Kit List was tested by participants and Leaders and they found it easy to use and they felt more organised once they had completed their kit list online.

Using the Interactive Kit List

You can access the Interactive Kit List using any mobile, tablet or PC, so you’ll always have your kit list to hand.

The first thing you’ll need to do is sign up! Once registered, you can then navigate the easy to use interface to identify:

  • What you’ve already got
  • What you’re going to borrow
  • What you need to buy
  • And nearer the time what you’ve packed… and what you’ve not!

Work out what you still need to get and click through to the DofE Recommended Kit page for that product.

All of our Recommended Kit has been tested by DofE staff or expedition teams to be good value for money and fit for purpose. We offer variations of kit items to allow for differences in level and duration of expeditions.

How to pick your product

Use the filters to narrow down the kit options – whether you are doing your Bronze, Silver or Gold expedition, are still growing or how often you’ll use your kit, you’ll find the right product for you.

The Interactive Kit List also features product information and links to DofE Recommended Kit from our partners, such as Vango, Craghoppers and Lifeventure.

We’ll even send you reminders before your practice and qualifying expeditions to tell you to check and update your kit list.

Saving and sharing your Interactive Kit List

The Interactive Kit List will save your updates each time you use it. You can use the filters to narrow down what you’ve already got, or a shopping list of what you need. You can share your personalised kit list with your parents or Leader via email, or print it out if you want a paper copy – or just continue to access it on your mobile. If your group is on social media, you can also share it with your fellow participants.

Your mobile DofE Card or voucher gives you at least 10% discount at GO Outdoors, Blacks, Millets, Ultimate Outdoors and Tiso

The DofE Card or Voucher provides all DofE participants, Leaders and volunteers with discounts for being part of the DofE network. The DofE Card or Voucher also saves you at least 10% on your purchases from GO Outdoors, Blacks, Millets, Ultimate Outdoors and Tiso (Scotland only).

Until now it has been a plastic card that you receive in your DofE Welcome Pack but you can now access one on your mobile. Once you are registered on the Interactive Kit List, making sure to include your Award level, simply open the site on The DofE Card page on your mobile and one of the staff at our five Recommended Retailers will scan the bar code on your phone.

All purchases with a DofE Card or voucher also generates a donation to the DofE Charity enabling more young people from all backgrounds and circumstances to do their DofE.
