Many years ago I was luck enough to be selected to attend a DofE fund raising event on board the QE2 in Southampton. This was an event for American Express Platinum Card holders I believe, and there were many celebrities on board. Part of the evening was a meal for guests and there was also a raffle, first prize being your own Cunard ship for a cruse. We drew lots for who would sell tickets at the Dukes table and I lost. Approaching the table nervously I asked Prince Philip if he would like to purchase some tickets. He of course declined as he did not carry any money but assured me that he was confident that his guests would be generous which indeed they were. Prince Philip introduced me to the table as 'one of his Gold Award holders' and was interested in what I had done to complete my award. I met Prince Philip several time while involved with the Award Scheme and every time he was down to earth and a pleasure to be with, but the meeting on the QE2 will always be my best memory.
