Gary Olds

I started my Bronze Award in 1986 and progressed onto my Gold Award. The award allowed me to discover the great outdoors. I found I loved going out into wild country and discovering new places. My Gold expedition was in the Lake District and somewhere I still cherish today. I was presented with my Gold Award in 1993 at St James Palace where I met the Duke. I don't remember what was said but I do remember putting everyone at ease. It was a real privilege to meet him and for him to take an interest in to all that were there. I now run the scheme in 2 schools and was invited to the Diamond service at Westminster Abbey at which he was present. This was a real honour to be there. I am proud to be part of this award scheme and his legacy will live on through the award.
